Animation Academy is one of our favorite places to visit in DCA. It is located in Hollywood Land. A lot of people just walk straight by this building, but from the moment you walk in you are greeted with Disney magic. There are the sounds of Disney music playing, tons of screens showing scenes from classic Disney movies, five areas to visit, and best of all it is air conditioned and has several seating areas to relax and unwind. Here is everything you can't miss at Animation Academy.
Turtle Talk With Crush: step up to the hydrophone for a live chat with Crush, the totally tubular turtle from Finding Nemo. This is about a 15 minute experience. Check out the video here of everything you can't miss.
Animation Academy: This is our favorite. You can learn to draw your favorite Disney characters for FREE. A talented Disney animation artist will teach you how to draw different characters throughout the day. The artist guides you through the drawing process and shares with you stories about the character or movie that you are drawing. It is one of the best experiences and you go home with a FREE Disney souvenir. This experience takes 25-30 minutes.
Sorcerers Workshop: Discover how Disney animators bring some of your favorite characters to life through two amazing interactive experiences. You can spend as much time as you want exploring this area.
The Beast's Library: The room, which is modeled after Beast's secret library in Beauty and the Beast, goes from dark and terrifying to its normal pristine conditions. The Beast's portrait hung above the fireplace even shifts to a clawed version. You can also sit and answer questions from an enchanted book to find out which Disney character best fits your personality! You can spend as much time as you would like exploring this area.
