Turning Red Review

Growing up is hard. In Disney and Pixar’s animated adventure, “Turning Red,” it’s a real beast... especially if you’re Meilin Lee. Whenever she gets excited, she turns into a giant red panda! This heartwarming coming-of-age tale explores the chaos of adolescence and the power of friendship.  Turning Red is available on Disney+ starting March 11, 2022.  This is not a premiere release so you will not have to pay an extra fee to see this movie on Disney+.  It will be available to everyone on Disney+ this Friday!  We screened the movie last month and I want to share with you why it is perfect for the whole family, along with new merchandise that will hit stores this month for the movie, and FREE printable activity sheets.

Disney and Pixar’s “Turning Red” introduces Mei Lee, a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, is never far from her daughter an unfortunate reality for the teenager and as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant red panda!

We loved this movie.  It is about the importance of family, friendship, and learning to be comfortable in your own skin as you mature, change, and grow.  I think Pixar and Disney show how to deal with important topics in a fun way.  I think all kids will love it, while adults are going to relate to the issues of growing up.  The movie is 1 hour and 40 minutes and it is rated PG-13.  I think the reason the movie is rated PG-13 is because puberty and menstrual cycle are discussed, albeit in a discreet manner that completely went over my kids' head. They seriously had no idea.

Since watching the movie the kids have been so excited about these new items that will hit stores this month.  They have been playing with them non-stop.
