Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Review, Interviews & More

Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow the Hedgehog, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be available on Digital on January 21, 2025 from Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment.

We had the honor of interviewing Jeff Fowler. He is an American filmmaker, animator and visual effects artist who directed the Sonic the Hedgehog film series and the Knuckles show, adapted from the best selling Sega video game franchise of the 1990s. He was so nice and you can watch the entire interview with Jeff and our review of the movie on our YouTube channel (link in bio). Don't miss this interview! Jeff gives us a little hint about Sonic 4, Amy Rose, and what he would tell his 10 year old self. It was an awesome interview.

Check out our interview with Tika Sumpter returns as Maddie, a veterinarian who’s married to Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). She and Tom let Sonic, Tails and Knuckles live in their home in Green Hills, MT. Sonic refers to her as “Pretzel Lady” for her impressive yoga moves. Maddie and Tom feel a bit restless when the 3 boys leave their home and are looking for their next adventure.

Kennedy got to chat with Colleen O'Shaughnessey, the voice of our favorite sidekick Tails from the Sonic franchise. She was so kind.  Colleen shares what it is like voicing Tails, what she would tell her 10 year old self, her favorite scene in the movie and more. It was an awesome interview.

New adventure. New rival. I love Sonic The Hedgehog 3. I was honored to attend the family day premiere for Sonic in 2020 and Sonic 2 in 2022.  I could not wait to see Sonic 3 and it did not disappoint. It was full of heart, laughs, and lots of action. The first two movies are fantastic and this one is just as good, if not better.

The film is packed with easter eggs. As a Shadow fan I was so happy with the story he was given and Keanu Reeves was the perfect choice to voice Shadow. The action throughout the movie is thrilling, there is never a dull moment and the visuals are incredible. Ben Schwartz who voices Sonic is the perfect choice to voice the Blue Blur and his comedic timing is always spot on. Jim Carrey is back as Dr. Robotnik, but in this movie he takes on another role, grandpa Gerald Robotnik. There are many scenes where he is playing opposite of himself. It is obvious that Jim Carrey is a master of comedy when you watch this movie. He is beyond talented and one of my favorite actors. I love that this franchise brings in a new character from the Sonic-verse in each film. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 features Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and now Shadow. Shadow is a fan favorite character and I was happy that they kept his origin story true to the original Sega video games.

The film is about love, friendship, grief and teamwork. The movie teaches you to do what is right, to be there for others and to not let anger define who you are. This film was awesome. I laughed at every joke. I love the cast. Do not leave the theater after the movie because there is a mid credit AND end credit scene. After watching these two scenes I have high hopes for Sonic 4! I give Sonic The Hedgehog 3, 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend it for ages 5 to 18, plus adults.
