The Bad Guys In Theaters April 22

Nobody has ever failed so hard at trying to be good as The Bad Guys.  In the new action comedy from DreamWorks Animation, based on the New York Times best-selling book series, a crackerjack criminal crew of animal outlaws are about to attempt their most challenging con yet... becoming model citizens.  You can see Bad Guys in theaters today.  We screened the film several weeks ago and wanted to share our thoughts on the movie and our interview with the cast.

Never have there been five friends as infamous as The Bad Guys - dashing pickpocket Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell), seen-it-all safecracker Mr. Snake (Marc Maron), chill master-of-disguise Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson), short-fused “muscle” Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos) and sharp-tongued expert hacker Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina), aka “Webs.”

But when, after years of countless heists and being the world’s most-wanted villains, the gang is finally caught, Mr. Wolf brokers a deal (that he has no intention of keeping) to save them all from prison: The Bad Guys will go good.  Under the tutelage of their mentor Professor Marmalade (Richard Ayoade), an arrogant (but adorable!) guinea pig, The Bad Guys set out to fool the world into thinking they’ve been transformed. Along the way, though, Mr. Wolf begins to suspect that doing good for real may give him what he’s always secretly longed for: acceptance. So when a new villain threatens the city, can Mr. Wolf persuade the rest of the gang to become … The Good Guys?

It was fun interviewing the cast after watching the film. They shared their favorite parts of the movie, what other characters they would have been if it was an option, and more. We really liked the movie. It reminded me of Ocean's 11, but for kids. There are car chases, action and adventure and my kids loved the entire movie. The movie is rated PG and it is 1 hour and 40 minutes. I will be completely honest, we loved the movie but Blake and I did think it was just a little long. An animated movie for kids should be around 1 hour and 20 minutes max. We loved the characters, the lessons it taught about friendship, family and being good. The action was great, but it was just a little long. It is a fun-filled movie for kids that teaches them about how being good and doing good makes you feel good. The movie delivers good values packaged up in a funny, delightful movie for the whole family!

Based on the blockbuster Scholastic book series by Aaron Blabey, The Bad Guys is directed by Pierre Perifel (animator, the Kung Fu Panda films), making his feature-directing debut. The film is produced by Damon Ross (development executive Trolls, The Boss Baby, co-producer Nacho Libre) and Rebecca Huntley (associate producer, The Boss Baby). The executive producers are Aaron Blabey, Etan Cohen and Patrick Hughes.

You can find all the books and more at your local bookstore

Bad cast, badder drawing. Watch the cast learn to draw Mr. Wolf from director Pierre Perifel.

In the “A Look Inside” Featurette, hear from the baddest cast to hit the big screen on what they think of their new film.

This weekend make sure you see The Bad Guys in theaters and I am sure it will have you leaving the theater wagging your tail.
