Recently I was honored to screen the new Melissa McCarthy movie The Starling. It stars Melissa McCarthy, Chris O'Dowd, Kevin Kline, Timothy Olyphant, Daveed Diggs, Skyler Gisondo, Loretta Devine, Laura Harrier, Rosalind Chao, Kimberly Quinn and more. The movie is about Lilly, who is suffering a loss when a combative Starling bird takes nest beside her quiet home. The feisty bird taunts and attacks the grief-stricken Lilly. On her journey to expel the Starling, she rediscovers her will to live and capacity for love.
It was so nice talking with Ted and Kimberly. I learned that the main character that Melissa McCarthy plays was actually written for a man, but they decided to switch it. I loved that they did this. I also learned in the very beginning of the movie when Melissa McCarthy and Chris O'Dowd are painting the nursery they are not even in the same room. They did this over zoom and put the footage together. I seriously could not even tell when I screened the movie! It was nice to listen to Ted and Kimberly talk about the movie and share memories and moments from filming.
The movie is rated PG-13 and is 104 minutes long. It is a really good movie. There were moments in the movie where I was sad, but by the next scene I would be laughing. Make sure you catch it on Netflix this Friday.
