The Water Man will be available on demand Tuesday, May 25th. It's an engaging ghost story for kids where fantasy elements are thoughtfully grounded by real-world concerns. I recently had the opportunity to interview Amiah Miller and Lonnie Chavis for their roles in the film and it was so interesting to learn what happened behind the scenes while filming and more. It is an adventure story about sacrificial love, hope and overcoming adversity. So plan a family movie night together and enjoy The Water Man.
The movie is about a boy named Gunner (Lonnie Chavis) who sets out on a quest to save his sick mother (Rosario Dawson) by searching for a mythic figure who possesses the secret to immortality, the Water Man. After enlisting the help of a mysterious local girl, Jo (Amiah Miller), they journey together into the remote Wild Horse forest, but the deeper they venture, the stranger and more dangerous the forest becomes. Their only hope for rescue is Gunner's father (David Oyelowo), who will stop at nothing to find them and in the process discover who his son really is.
The film stars David Oyelowo, Rosario Dawson, Lonnie Chavis, Amiah Miller, Alfred Molina, Maria Bello and more.
I enjoyed learning that Lonnie, much like his character Gunner, enjoys drawing. They even brought in a graphic artist on the set. Lonnie faced a lot of fears while filming this movie and he is also afraid of heights, which did not help because in the movie there is a terrifying scene where Gunner hangs from a log over rushing water. You have to see the movie to see what happens. Amiah and Lonnie both shared how much more they appreciate their parents since filming the movie. They talked about how close they have stayed in contact with the cast and how they were like a real family and not just acting. At the end of the movie a question is asked: If you would chose a short life with lots of love or a long life with no one left to love, what would you choose? Amiah and Lonnie both agreed they would choose a short life with lots of love!
Thank you so much for goodies @rljefilms! We received popcorn, candy from Dylan's Candy Bar, a backpack, an activity book, crayons and more.
The movie is rated PG and is 92 minutes long.
