The Secret Garden will be released this Friday, August 7th on premium video on demand. The Secret Garden stars Dixie Egerickx, Edan Hayhurst, Colin Firth, Julie Walters, Amir Wilson, Isis Davis, Maeve Dermody, Jemma Powell, Sonia Goswami, and more. If you loved the book growing up, you will love this movie. It is a beautiful film that we all enjoyed.
The film marks the 1911 children's novel's latest big screen incarnation since 1993. The film is brought forward in time to post World War II, on the eve of Partition in India. The Secret Garden tells the story of Mary Lennox (Dixie Egerickx), a 10-year-old girl, born in India to wealthy British parents. When they suddenly die, she is sent back to England to live with her uncle, Archibald Craven (Colin Firth) on his remote country estate deep in the Yorkshire moors. There, she begins to uncover many family secrets, particularly after meeting her sickly cousin Colin (Edan Hayhurt), who has been shut away in a wing of the house. Together, these two damaged, slightly misfit children heal each other through their discovery of a wondrous secret garden, lost in the grounds of Misselthwaite Manor. It is a magical place of adventure that will change their lives forever.
This morning we had the honor to meet over Zoom with Dixie Egerickx, who plays Mary Lennox and Edan Hayhurst, who plays her cousin Colin. They were both very sweet to answer questions that the kids had about the movie. Dixie and Edan both hope that after children watch this movie they learn the importance of friendship, the beauty of nature, and that it is always important to grow and change. They were both lovely to chat with this morning and the kids enjoyed meeting them after screening the movie this past weekend.
