10 Ways To Teach Your Children Love and Happiness

Love and happiness have everything to do with your behavior. You can't control how others act, but you should always be in control of your own love, happiness, and behavior. I really try to stay positive, love others, and be happy every day. I do it not only for myself, but also for my children. It is a healthy way to live and a great attitude to show your children. Here are some ways I teach my children and myself to stay happy and treat others well.

1. Exercise: Even if it is just for a short time each day, go outside and walk, run, and play a sport with your children. Get some sunshine on your face, breathe in the fresh air and believe me your body will thank you. Plus, it teaches your kids to put down the devices, turn off the TV, and enjoy being outside together.

2. Surround yourself with positive people: Honestly, I am still learning this. Being around positive people will make you feel better. Whether it is girlfriends, school moms, or family, surround yourself with people who are positive, like minded, raise children similar to you, and have common interests. Those are the people who will bring you joy, keep you grounded, happy, and positive.

3. Be present: Choose to love your life, yourself, and be present. Be fully present with your children, your job, your spouse, friends, and everything important in your life.

4. Set goals: I am always working towards something, whether it is goals for myself, my children, our house, blogging, etc. I think setting goals helps you stay motivated and keep you on track. I always write down goals in my phone and constantly have lists for things that I am working on or striving toward.

5. Acceptance: We all want to be accepted, liked, and loved, but sometimes we just have to accept what cannot be changed. We don't have control over everything that happens in our lives and we have to learn to just accept those things and move on.

6. Treat others the way you want to be treated: Treating others better will make you feel better about yourself. Believe me, it is true. Even if others are unkind, as long as you are being kind and not saying hurtful things no one can ever fault you.

7. Always be grateful: Grateful people are the happiest people. I remind my kids everyday to thank God for the light in their eyes and the air in their lungs. We are beyond blessed and I try to remind myself and my children daily how grateful we are. There are plenty of bad things that happen in our daily lives, but we should always try to focus on the good.

8. Expand your knowledge: Like exercising, knowledge stimulates endorphins. I tell my kids to always keep learning. I ask them questions daily to communicate with them and make them think about certain things, whether it be school related or real world situations. Read a book, listen to someone speak, and keep your brain active!

9. Positivity is key: Shoot for the stars! I always expect the best, want the best, work for the best, and yes sometimes I am let down. But you need to know that tomorrow is a new day, so just keep thinking and staying positive. That positivity will rub off onto others, including your children.

10. Help others: It always feels good to help others. Teach your children to do the same. Make sure you are leading by example. It could be a small act like holding the door for someone, buying someone's coffee through the Starbucks drive thru line, or volunteering, donating toys, etc. Doing something as a family and showing your children how to help others and give back can help our world be kinder and more loving.
