Memorial Day Weekend

Happy Memorial Day. Today was a time to thank those who serve, their families and our Vets & to remember that freedom isn't free. This weekend we decided to take an adventure to San Luis Obispo. It has been years since Blake and I visited this beautiful area and we realized quickly how much we love it and missed it. I have a feeling we will be going again soon. There is so much to do with children, amazing places to eat, great shopping, and so much more. We have always stayed at the Petit Soleil in SLO, but it was sold out for Memorial Day weekend. We were really bummed and called a few other places that were recommended and they were all sold out as well. So we ended up staying at the Marriott Courtyard. It was okay, but not our favorite. We would probably not stay there again unless everything else was sold out. We arrived on Friday and shopped and walked all of downtown SLO. We ended our night with dinner at Palazzo Giuseppe. It is the best!

On Saturday we went to the Avila Valley Barn. There is so much to do here that you could spend hours. You can feed farm animals (which Carter loved), you can eat lunch, take pony rides, hay rides, there is a bakery, corn roaster, ice cream and other treats. We had a ball and actually went again on Monday before heading home.

Afterward, we drove into Pismo Beach to walk all the little shops by the pier. That evening we had dinner at Pepe Delgado's and it was amazing. It is a Mexican restaurant and it might be our new favorite!

On Sunday we got up and headed to Morro Bay to the aquarium and feed the sea lions. This little aquarium is a gem! I love it and you can get up close and personal with sea lions and feed them little fishes! Carter thought this was fantastic!

In the afternoon we went to the San Luis Obispo Children's Museum. Carter loved it. We stayed until it closed at 5 pm! He still cried when it was time to leave.

We had an early dinner Sunday night at Olive Garden. I love the Olive Garden and it was brand new, right down the street from our hotel. It was so nice inside and we had a great dinner and got to visit with a friend Jeremy who lives down in SLO and works at Olive Garden. It was such a nice long weekend. We got up Monday morning and headed back to the Avila Valley Barn, said goodbye to the animals one last time, grabbed some goodies and headed home early to beat the holiday traffic. A special thank you to everyone who gave us recommendations on places to stay, eat, and visit. Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone!
