Wicked: For Good is such an emotional and exciting movie; I was honestly surprised by how well they brought the Broadway show to the screen. I really love how the film focuses on the friendship between Elphaba and Glinda and shows how complicated, but real, their bond is. The visuals are beautiful; the songs gave me chills; and the performances feel so genuine. The story follows Elphaba, who has become the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, who now is known as Glinda the Good. After Elphaba stands up against the Wizard’s unfair rules, the two girls find themselves on completely different paths. Elphaba basically becomes an outlaw fighting for what she believes in, while Glinda is pushed into being the Wizard’s spokesperson. Even though they used to be close friends, they have to deal with how much their relationship has changed as Elphaba tries to reveal the truth and Glinda struggles with the pressure of her new role.
This is truly a magical and meaningful movie that made me feel a lot of emotions in the best way. The actors are honestly amazing. Cynthia Erivo brings so much emotion and strength to Elphaba; and Ariana Grande is the perfect Glinda with her bubbly personality and incredible voice. They work so well together that their friendship feels totally real, which makes the sad moments hit even harder. The supporting cast is also really great and adds a lot to the story. Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero adds charm and vulnerability to his character and Marissa Bode as Nessarose plays Elphaba’s younger sister, giving a deeper family dimension to the story. Her character’s struggles and transformations add emotional weight and help show how life in Oz affects more than just the main hero's story.
The musical numbers are outstanding; every song feels powerful and emotional; and the choreography makes the film even more fun to watch. The movie is visually gorgeous too. Oz is shown with huge landscapes, sparkling details, and sets that feel magical, but still like a real world you could visit. Shiz University, the Emerald City, and the Wizard’s palace all look so cool and detailed. The costumes also stand out with bright colors and fun designs that match each character’s personality. The whole film perfectly mixes fantasy, music, and emotion as it unravels Glinda and Elphaba’s story. The story proves how strong real friendship can be, even when things get complicated. It encourages viewers to look past appearances and trust their own sense of what’s true and what’s good.
The film’s message is that people aren’t always what they seem, and sometimes people are labelled unfairly. It shows that doing the right thing can be hard, especially when other people don’t understand you. Wicked: For Good gets 5 out of 5 stars from me and I recommend it for ages 8 to 18 plus adults. It is available in theaters now. Thanks for listening.
