Careful who you assemble. Hi, I am Kennedy and I will be reviewing the film Thunderbolts. If you have been following us for some time, you know in this household we are big Marvel fans. We watch every movie and series and are always looking forward to what's next. I even had the honor of meeting Kevin Feige last summer! Thunderbolts is full of action like every Marvel movie. The cast is exceptional. They work really well together and I like how they poke fun at each other, but also get to know one another and form strong bonds. These characters have all done bad things in the past, they have been through so much and I really liked how Marvel explored each of their situations and shared what they were going through during this film. They are dealing with personal issues, anxiety, depression and the film shows the struggles of these superheroes and how they come to terms with themselves and I have never seen Marvel do that to this extent before. This film is based on the Marvel comic series, which was originally published in 1997. Fans of Marvel films and streaming series have been gradually introduced to theThunderbolts* characters through titles like Ant-Man and The Wasp, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Ensnared in a death trap, an unconventional team of antiheroes that includes Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) and John Walker (Wyatt Russel) embarks on a dangerous mission that forces them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts.
Thunderbolts has some of the best action fight scenes I have seen in a long time. The cinematography in this film is outstanding. It is a dark movie, but there is also humor and so much action throughout and I really loved it. Florence Pugh who plays Yelena shines bright. She is a powerful woman who is not afraid to show compassion for others. Her connection with the other characters is very special especially with Bob, who is Sentry. He suffers from depression (this is also in the comic books). Yelena takes him under her wing. She has been through so much in her past and feels like she must protect him. Their relationship in the movie is very emotional. I also enjoyed Red Guardian. He is fun and his comedic relief at certain moments was definitely needed to provide balance. The entire cast is relatable and resonated with me and I am sure with all audiences who see the movie.
The film's message is about mental health, healing from trauma, and the importance of community and support, even in the face of personal struggles. It explores the idea that even individuals who have made mistakes or are labeled as "losers" can find redemption and purpose through their relationships and by working together. I give Thunderbolts 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 10 to 18 plus adults. You can see Thunderbolts in theaters now. There is a mid credit scene and end credit scene, so don't leave your seat until the lights come on! The film is rated PG-13 and it is 2 hours and 6 minutes. Thanks for listening.
