Descendants: The Rise Of Red is captivating. It combines thrilling action with some emotional depth and amazing visuals and musical numbers. There are strong performances and a great plot. It keeps the magic of the franchise alive while introducing new elements. Whether you are a long time fan (like my family) or a newcomer, this film offers something magical for everyone. Descendants: The Rise of Red follows Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, Cinderella’s perfectionist daughter. When the tyrannical Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, polar opposites Red and Chloe must join forces and travel back in time using a magical pocket watch to undo the traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path.
In addition to Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker, the film stars a new ensemble of VKs and legacy characters, including Brandy as Cinderella, Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts, Dara Reneé as Uliana, Ruby Rose Turner as Bridget/Young Queen of Hearts, Morgan Dudley as Ella/Young Cinderella, Joshua Colley as Young Hook, Peder Lindell as Morgie, Grace Narducci as Fay/Young Fairy Godmother, Jeremy Swift as Principal Merlin, Paolo Montalban as King Charming, and Leonardo Nam as Maddox Hatter. China Anne McClain is back as fan-favorite Uma and the new principal at Auradon Prep. Melanie Paxson also reprises her role as Fairy Godmother.
The Descendants movies always have the best musical numbers and phenomenal dance choreography. The soundtrack is out now and we already know the lyrics by heart. The set designs, costumes, hair and makeup are all amazing.
You don't need to see the previous Descendants movies to watch The Rise Of Red, but I highly recommend watching them all in order. They are all on Disney+. There is a beautiful tribute to Carlos (Cameron Boyce) that will have you in tears at the beginning of the movie. The film is about friendship, not judging a book by its cover, mom and daughter relationships, doing what is right and working together.
We were honored to be invited to the world premiere for Disney Descendants: The Rise Of Red this week. We were so excited to see the newest chapter in this story and franchise. The movie is filled with everything we all love - magic, adventure, wonder heart, fun and maybe just a little bit of villainous attitude. There are new characters, new songs, and amazing dance numbers that will have you out of your seat dancing! The cast is phenomenal and beyond talented. They were so sweet and kind at the after party and even though there are new characters and a new story, we will never forget our original VKs who started this franchise and the love we have for these characters and songs. Our love always goes out to the memory of Cameron Boyce.
