The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part February 8th

This post is in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures #AD #WBpartner

This past Thursday I was invited to a VIP advanced screening of The LEGO Movie 2 by Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Animation Group. The movie has the most amazing all star cast, original music, and it is perfect for all ages. We loved it.

The kids wanted Emmet and Lucy costumes for the screening, so I got their costumes from Disguise.  Disguise has the best costumes ever.  They have anything and everything you could possibly be looking for.  Check out my last blog post with Disguise here.  I love that they always have the latest costumes and the quality is so good.

On the way to the screening we walked right by Chris Pratt's star in Hollywood so we had to take a photo!

We even met Emmet and Lucy at the screening!

Everything Is Awesome!

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are now facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than it can be rebuilt. The battle to defeat the invaders and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet (Chris Pratt), Lucy (Elizabeth Banks), Batman (Will Arnett) and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.

The movie is intelligent, playful, and great for the entire family. We are a LEGO loving family and love all the other LEGO movies, so of course we loved this one too. There are so many jokes that Blake and I were laughing at and other jokes that the kids thought were funny. It kept us laughing and entertained from the beginning until the end. I really liked how the movie starts right where the last movie ends about the little sister getting to play with the LEGO with her brother that are down in the basement. Of course this movie hit close to home because I have a son and daughter and they are playing together fine one minute and arguing the next.

The movie stars Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, Alison Brie, Nick Offerman, Charlie Day, Maya Rudolph and more.

I was also invited by Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Animation Group to participate in a press junket and interview the cast on Friday in Los Angeles. It was an amazing day and I felt so honored to be included in this junket. Thank you again Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Animation Group for having me.

I started off the morning by meeting Mike Mitchell (director) and Trisha Gum (animation director).  I had no idea, but Mike Mitchell also directed Trolls (which my kids love). It was a pleasure to meet Mike and Trisha and just to be in the same room with such talent was an honor. They were so nice and it was so neat to discuss with Mike and Trisha the characters they added into this film and why. With Tiffany Haddish they wanted someone who was funny, confident and strong and they thought Tiffany embodied all of those things. "she exudes energy. She never loses her energy. At the end of the day we would all be exhausted, but she would be unstoppable." Tiffany Haddish plays Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi and her character shape shifts and changes into different things almost like the genie from Aladdin. Mike and Trisha were completely dedicated to this film. They were there every single day while everyone recorded their voices. They were part of the film from beginning to end. At the end we asked Mike and Trisha what they want kids to take away after seeing this movie and they both agreed, "We want kids to go home and start building with LEGO, get their faces out of the phones and iPads.  That's my favorite thing about LEGO - it's a toy, you don't have to plug it in, it doesn't have batteries, you just start creating with your hands in real life."

After we chatted with Mike and Trisha we met the amazing and talented Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.  They were so down to earth and I loved meeting them and listening to their stories about college and their dreams.  They are the prolific multi-hyphenate duo behind some of today's most successful films including the The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, 21 and 22 Jump Street, and more.  When we asked Phil and Christopher what they wanted people to take away from the movie they said, "we want you to feel more creative and be more creative on the way out than you felt on the way in and feel more generous and empathetic."  They discussed how "growing up as a kid there's a moment when you realize that not everything is awesome (like the song in the movie) and then you can choose to go two ways with it.  You can choose or like I'm going to prove that I am grown up by being cynical, angry, detached and gritty.  What we think is a more sophisticated and actually more mature thing is to choose to be kind and to be positive."

We also got to meet and visit with Will Arnett, Tiffany Haddish, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, and Stephanie Beatriz.  They were all very nice and it was an honor to meet such amazing talent.  I am such a huge fan of all of them, so to be the same room with them was just crazy.  We discussed the movie, children, using your imagination, playing well with others, LEGO, favorite scenes in the movie, and so much more.  We discussed how all the characters have different identities and they are just trying to figure out who they are supposed to be.  Chris Pratt said, "You don't have to become something you are not naturally.  You can embrace who you are, and oftentimes, we become something out of fear or you know out of an intention of self preservation."
