Merry Christmas! Last December Blake and I videotaped Grandma Margaret making her Spritz cookies, a family holiday favorite! We thought it would be a nice memory for everyone to have and always be able to look back on to carry on the tradition.
The circle cookies are wreaths, the S-shaped cookies are an "S" for Santa and then there are candy canes, but you can form them into anything you like.
If you have a favorite recipe that a relative or friend makes, I highly suggest you record them making it so you have it forever. You can always watch and follow along and it is such a nice memory to have and share with others.
Ingredients:
2 ¼ cups flour
¾ cup sugar
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp baking powder
1 cup shortening (½ cup of butter and ½ cup of Crisco)
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
Crystals sprinkles
Directions:
Mix the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder together in a bowl. With a pastry blender, mix the shortening (butter and Crisco) into the dry ingredients until the mixture is full of very fine lumps (the size of peas). Measure the egg in a measuring cup and add the vanilla. You may need to add some water because you need it to equal the ¼ cup. Beat the mixture well and add the egg mixture into the bowl with the flour, salt, sugar, baking soda and shortening. Mix everything really well. Fill your cookie press and form your cookies on a baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper. Sprinkle formed dough with crystals. Bake at 350 – 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately place on cooling racks. Enjoy!
